"In May of 1991, Humboldt County Judges John E. Buffington, William F. Ferroggiaro, Jr., and J. Michael Brown wrote,
“As judges of the court we are interested in CASA as a vehicle to allow us to make fully-informed and effective Court orders relative to children appearing before the Court.”
CASA of Humboldt County was incorporated as a nonprofit in 1991 with broad community support. Fifteen individuals made up the founding Board of Directors with an additional 21 members forming the Advisory Board. Valerie Bish was the founding Executive Director.
In 1997, a Del Norte County CASA program was started as part of the Humboldt program. In 2002, CASA of Del Norte became an independent nonprofit.
Since CASA of Humboldt’s founding in May 1991 to January 2014, 1,270 local children have had a CASA to speak up for their needs in court."

Individually they have studied with influential and legendary artists such Alasdair Fraser, Natalie Haas, Martin Hayes, John McCusker, Mike Block, Johnny Cunningham and Tristan & Tashina Clarridge. Since beginning their musical partnership as a duo in 2018, Blake and Summer have taken traditional music to new heights by infusing it with contemporary and improvisational techniques.
